Hello and welcome to my page!

My name is Kate and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in New Jersey. I’ve worked with children, teens, adolescents and families for the past 7 years and love what I do! I know how hard it is to talk about difficult topics that are viewed as “exaggerated” or “over the top” to others. In addition to connecting with me for treatment, this page will be used as a platform for people to share their stories and empower others who felt they do not have a voice. Your experiences and feelings are important and deserve to be heard.

Creating a safe space and ensuring support for others is paramount in my practice. With this page, supportive genuine care and acceptance will be essential tools to help people work through their feelings that keep them stuck and, more importantly, end the stigmas attached with mental health! You may also find some humor and creative, evidence-based strategies sprinkled in that will continue to empower individuals and families.

Therapy for Young Adults

Transitioning into adulthood can be difficult and anxiety-provoking. Oftentimes, young adults face challenging chapters in their life such as leaving their families for the first time, learning how to become truly independent, developing their own identity, and exploring complex relationships. These experiences, coupled with a mental health issue, can make this transition even more difficult and overwhelming. The need for support is crucial during this time, but often overlooked due to stigma among other factors. With therapy, you can learn how to work through:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Relationship Conflicts
  • Self-Esteem
  • Stress Management

Therapy for Teens

As an adolescent, you’re faced with a myriad of changes starting as young as 12. Puberty is confusing and frustrating, peer pressure can be relentless, and the expectations from school can seem unattainable. It feels like everyone expects you to be perfect and the pressure can be unbearable. Finding a therapist that fits your personality takes time and patience. With the right amount of support, care and unconditional positive regard, you can learn how to manage your:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Stress Management
  • Mood Disorders
  • Self-Esteem
  • Peer Conflict
  • Relationship Issues
  • School Issues
  • Regulating Emotions
  • Family Conflict

Therapy for Children

Being a child isn’t always as easy as it seems. Peers can be cruel, teachers don’t always understand, and the classwork can seem daunting. As a parent, it’s hard to see our children suffer. While in therapy, your child can work on:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Mood Disorders
  • ADHD
  • Behavior (Opposition/Noncompliance)
  • Peer Conflict
  • Stress Management
  • Emotion Regulation
  • School Issues
  • Family Conflict

Therapy for Families

Families consist of many different members. Some are defined by blood, others by adopted parents, and some consist of a mix of foster family and friends. However we define family, there’s one thing that’s for sure: This is the starting point of learning what a relationship looks like and how we connect with others. Family therapy is the collaboration of family members with a shared goal in mind. Oftentimes, families seek help when their unit is lacking cohesion and togetherness. When getting treatment you can learn:

  • Effective communication
  • Increased Bond
  • Reduction in Conflict
  • Improved Understanding
  • Increased Problem-Solving Strategies
  • Establishing Healthy Boundaries

Perinatal Mental Health

Perinatal Mental Health encompasses all mental health concerns that occur during and after the first year of pregnancy. It’s no longer considered the “baby blues” or postpartum depression. Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders (PMADs) have become a growing concern as awareness starts to increase. They are the most common complication during pregnancy and childbirth – and many people face this alone. Treatment for this issue can seem daunting, but you no longer have to suffer in silence. Knowing you’re surrounded with support and that there are effective treatments can be life saving.

Supervision - LACs

I am an Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) and would love to help you obtain your hours! I’m available for individual and group supervision. I follow a holistic approach and draw from an integration of person-centered, mindfulness-based, and cognitive-behavioral therapies. In this way, I provide you with individualized care to meet your unique needs allowing a sense of empowerment. I look forward to hearing from you!

Benefits of Out Of Network Providers

No Limitations

Not accepting insurance allows me to focus on the person rather then meeting the demands of insurance companies. It allows me to put you and your needs first, rather then theirs. Insurance companies often limit the time you spend in a session, and the amount of sessions I can have with you. This means they have a LOT of input on how our treatment plan looks.

Confidentiality & Privacy

When you use insurance, therapists are required to provide a diagnosis and treatment notes in order to prove “medically necessary” treatment. Being a private pay provider helps maintain that confidentiality you deserve and protect your privacy.

Quality Care

I take pride in the amount of time and effort I spend with my clients. Oftentimes, insurance companies flood therapists with client referrals making it hard to put the focus and attention on you. By not accepting insurance, I’m able to keep a manageable caseload where I provide individualized care to each of my clients.

How to Save

There are many ways to pay for therapy. Many clients use Health Savings Accounts (HSA) or Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) that can be used to pay for therapy. You’re able to save because these accounts are pre-tax dollars. In addition to using these accounts (which are offered in many jobs!), I can provide you a bill that can be used with Out-of-Network benefits where you will be reimbursed for your sessions. Some reimbursement is up to 70%! This is sometimes more affordable or comparable to typical standard or out-of-pocket pay with in-network providers.

Additional Benefits

When you use in network providers, you’re limited with therapists that you can see. Finding a therapist is a process and can be exhausting. When you only use providers in your network, there’s a possibility that you’re eliminating therapists who could potentially be a great fit.

Although private pay can be costly, there are many benefits that outweigh the cons. Take the time to consider what’s best for you and your needs. If private pay is not a good fit, I’d be happy to provide referrals to a therapist who can meet your needs.
